Posted on May 5, 2022 by Roslyn Little

For every $100 a small business (with aggregated turnover of less than $50 million) spends on digital technologies will receive a $120 tax deduction.  The boost will apply to eligible expenditure incurred from 29 March 2022 to 30 June 2022.  There is also a similar skills and training boost.  This is not currently law but has bi-partisan support.  Time to talk to your accountant for details.  Better sooner than later in case you miss out.

Posted on April 19, 2022 by Roslyn Little

DocuSign has announced a partnership with Amaka to build its first official accounting integration with Xero. The integration, now available globally through the Amaka portal, will allow users to automate document signing by syncing Xero documents with DocuSign eSignature for signing electronically, before pushing the finalised document back to Xero. The Amaka-powered integration, built using the DocuSign eSignature API, will capture the Xero documents such as invoices, bills, quotes, expense claims and purchase orders. APAC group vice-president and general manager at DocuSign, Dan Bognar, said the ability to electronically sign important Xero accounting and finance documents would deliver an elevated […]

Superannuation Changes

Posted on October 28, 2021 by Roslyn Little

Amendments to superannuation law introduced into Parliament on Wednesday (27 October) will, among other things, ensure the removal of a structural discrimination, in place since 1992, which has barred employees with an income of under $450 per month from accessing the superannuation guarantee. The $450 threshold removal was part of the government’s budget promise to women and was flagged as a move to ensure low-income earners, particularly women and younger Australians, have access to adequate retirement savings. Commenting on the government’s introduction of legislation that will scrap this barrier, the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA) said if Parliament approval is […]

Skills Shortages

Posted on September 20, 2021 by Roslyn Little

With Australia’s border closures preventing the arrival of technical and skilled workers from overseas into the country, businesses are now having to fight for available resources and things are about to get tougher for small businesses, according to Ms Newbound, head of business services firm Accuratus. “This is especially evident in tourism and hospitality where our clients are being hit hard by this shortage and unable to fill shifts in wineries and restaurants,” Ms Newbound said. “Many skilled workers are now able to name their price as the employment market heats up. Small businesses, already impacted by lockdowns, are finding […]

On Tuesday, the Treasury Laws Amendment (COVID-19 Economic Response No. 2) Bill 2021 was introduced into Parliament, confirming Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s comments that COVID-19 disaster payments would now be tax-free. Under the change, COVID-19 disaster payments dating back to its introduction on 3 June will now be non-assessable non-exempt income, meaning recipients will take home more than they did under the $90 billion JobKeeper wage subsidy program, which was taxed. Workers who lose 20 or more hours of work a week will receive $750 a week, while those who lose between eight and 20 hours will receive $450.
